  • FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements, which add scheme-specific controls

Version 7 does not replace this structure. Instead, it updates it to reflect the revised ISO 22002 standards, the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements 2024, sustainability considerations and changes across the food industry.

That means organisations certified to Version 6 do not need to start again. They need to understand what has changed, identify gaps and bring their existing system into alignment.

Version 7 introduces specific requirements for Certification Bodies that use AI during the certification process.

These requirements cover:

  • AI governance and defined responsibilities

The requirement does not mean that every FSSC-certified organisation using AI internally must automatically introduce a separate FSSC-specific AI governance system. It applies specifically to the use of AI by Certification Bodies within certification activities.

5. Food-chain categories have been reorganised

Version 7 introduces a clearer structure for food-chain categories and subcategories, making it important for organisations to confirm that their certification scope still matches their current operations.

As part of the review, check whether there have been changes to:

  • Products or product groups
  • Manufacturing or processing activities
  • Packaging, storage or other site activities
  • Outsourced processes
  • The overall scope stated on the certificate

Even a small change in what a site produces or does can affect how its certification scope is defined. Version 7 is therefore a good opportunity to make sure the certificate still accurately represents the operation being audited.

6. Alignment with GFSI Benchmarking Requirements 2024

FSSC 22000 is a GFSI-benchmarked certification scheme, so updates to GFSI requirements are reflected in the scheme. Version 7 incorporates the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements 2024 to keep its certification framework aligned with current international expectations.
